My 70-lb Weight Loss Journey

Time to Transform

I’ve been overweight for 15 years, and now that I’m 54, I realize it is really past time to do fix that. I’ve always weighed 125-130, but at age 40, I gained 70 lbs and have carried that extra weight ever since.

I try to be vegan, although sometimes I falter and eat cheese (think cheese pizza!). So my method of losing this 70 lbs is eating HEALTHY vegetarian food along with some fasting. I am following Tim Ferriss’ Slow Carb Diet principles as he set forth in the Four-Hour Body book, as it keeps insulin levels low. And when insulin is up, your body can’t touch its fat stores. (Read Jason Fung’s book on insulin and fasting!).

I also have to count calories, because it’s nothing for me to eat 3000 calories in one meal on the days I DO eat! (No joke!). That’s particularly not good because my TDEE is 1650, meaning eating more than 1650 calories a day = weight gain! So the hard part for me is eating a sensible amount of calories.

My biggest obstacle is always eating out or eating take-out because I despise cooking. Restaurant foods made me fat. It’s amazing how many calories are packed into a single restaurant meal.

This is my “accountability” page showing my results and tracking my progress.

I carry all my extra weight around my stomach. I started at a whopping 192 lbs on June 22, 2024.This kind of weight is the most damaging, health-wise, and I am sorry I have waited 15 years to lose it. I guess I always thought “Oh, I can do that later!”

But now I’m 54, and I certainly don’t want to get health problems because I’m obese. People who are obese tend to die young.
I want to get back to my old normal of 125-130 lbs. ASAP!

The picture above was taken when I lived in Japan in 1995. I weighed about 120 lbs then. But that was my normal weight until 15 years ago. So it inspires me to LOSE THIS FAT!

The Beginning: 192 lbs

June 22, 2024

It’s hard to look at myself and see how much weight I’ve gained.

My motivation to lose it is because I turned 54, and I thought “Wow! That’s not far from 60! I don’t want to be old and FAT!” Plus, I read scientific papers constantly and see all the deleterious health effects that obesity brings. I don’t want that at all!

And, I just became a grandma! I want to be around to see my little granddaughter grow up.

So this is the start of my journey to be healthy, fit, and lean!
